Digital Media & Writing Collection

This collection features some of the content I have written or collaborated on as the Technical and Social Media Writer with the University of Arkansas System, Division of Ag. Part of my responsibilities in this role is updating ANR web pages and publishing to the Arkansas Row Crops blog and Agriculture and Natural Resources blog.

Arkansas Row Crops Blog

The Arkansas Row Crops blog is an educational blog that provides timely information to Arkansas row crops clientele. I have been publishing the majority of the content on this blog since July 2021.

I facilitate by publishing content submitted by our specialists to get research-based information into the hands of our clientele. This includes editing submitted blog posts, compressing and sizing images, adding ALT text and metadata, and inserting tables, meaningful links, and snippets accordingly.

This year I specifically worked with one of our Extension Ag Economists to ensure the color contrast accessibility of the graphs and histograms in his weekly market reports.

Weekly Newsletters with Constant Contact

The Arkansas Row Crops blog has over 900 subscribers to our weekly newsletter. Each week I use Constant Contact to compose an email campaign featuring blog posts and timely updates. I write the blurbs for each post with a link back to the page.

Recently I updated the format of these email campaigns. The new email format provides the option to add heading structure in addition to ALT text, to ensure the accessibility of our digital content.

Agriculture & Natural Resources Blog

The Agriculture and Natural Resources blog was recently launched in the Spring of 2022. Prior to the launch, I worked on blog branding, designed a blog header using Adobe Illustrator, and collaborated with our design team to publish the final iteration. I wrote all of the content on the landing page and selected aesthetically fitting photos.

I collaborate with specialists for content ideas and feature photos for blog posts. Typically I am listed as the second or third author behind our subject matter experts. I wrote the majority of the content for the Field Watch and Luna Moth posts, then edited them according to collaboration with the other listed authors. In addition, I wrote the majority of the content for the Hammerhead worm post with more intense collaboration as this was a timely update to provide to our clientele. This post also received a great amount of attention on our Arkansas Extension Facebook page.

The "What's that bug?" blog series has been a great feature. I collaborated with two of our entomologists on the idea. Together we write and edit a post featuring a new bug each month. I help select photos and work to ensure they are correctly cited. I also create a header for each of the posts using Canva, and the content is shared on our social media channels. Recently we reached out to our content management system developers to create a feed specifically for this series
